Sabrina Alterman, MS, CCC/A has been a licensed audiologist in New York State for sixteen years, working with both adults and children in diagnosing hearing loss to fitting amplification. From 1998 to 2002 she worked exclusively as an
educational audiologist, where she began her work with Cochlear Implants. In 2003 she began specializing in the treatment of Cochlear Implants for children and adults. Ms. Alterman received her BA in speech and hearing science from the State
University of New York at Buffalo and her MS in audiology from Brooklyn College. Currently she is pursuing her Doctor of
Audiology degree from the University of Arizona's School of Health Sciences.
Sandra Delapenha, MA, CCC/A, Supervisor, received her Master's Degree from Hunter College. She has been an audiologist for 20 years. Her clinical interests are in the area of electrophysiology and evaluation of hearing in children and adults. She has been a member of the Beth Israel team since 1990.
Michele DiStefano, MS, CCC/A, Supervisor Hearing Aid Center, received her Master's Degree from Brooklyn College. Her clinical interests are in the area of hearing loss in children and adults, auditory processing disorders, and amplification. As a Supervisor, Hearing Aid Center, she has been a member of the Beth Israel team since 1999.
Nancy Siwoff Gilston, MA, CCC-A, has served as Cochlear Implant Audiologist at The New York Eye & Ear Infirmary for the past 13 years, working with adults as well as children. In addition to her expertise in cochlear implants, she is responsible for vestibular testing at the hospital. She received her BA from Boston University and her MA in Audiology from Hunter College, New York.
Melissa Harawitz, MS, CCC/A received her Masters degree from Hunter College. Her clinical interests are in the area of hearing loss in children and adults, and cochlear implants. She has been part of the Beth Israel team since 2002.
Megan Kuhlmey, MS, CCC/A received her Master's Degree in Audiology from Brooklyn College. Her clinical interests are in the areas of hearing loss in children and adults, and cochlear implants. She has been a member of the Beth Israel team since 2000.
Lori Markoff, MS, CCC/A has been practicing Audiology for 10 years. Prior to joining the Beth Israel/New York Eye & Ear Cochlear Implant Center team in 2004, she was a Clinical Specialist for Advanced Bionics Corporation, providing training and advanced clinical support to centers all over New England and New York City. Lori lived in London for three years, where she led the Pediatric Cochlear Implant Team at St. Thomas' Hospital. She started her professional career at Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital and has come full-circle back to New York City.
Shelly Ozdamar, MS, CCC/A has been an audiologist for 14 years. Her clinical interest is in the area of severe and profound hearing loss for children and adults. She has been working in the area of cochlear implants for 12 years and has been a member of the Beth Israel team since 1997.
Lisa Rosenberg, MS, CCC-A graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a BA in Speech and Hearing Science and volunteered in SUNY's Hearing Research Laboratory where she studied the effects of estrogen on noise induced hearing loss. In 2002, she received a MS degree in audiology from Hunter College and began her clinical fellowship year at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital Cochlear Implant Center, where she continued to work until 2004. Since 2003, Ms. Rosenberg has been pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree in speech and hearing science at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Currently, Ms. Rosenberg works at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary Cochlear Implant Center with adults and children who have received cochlear implants.
Nicole C. Sislian, MA, CCC/A, Supervisor Cochlear Implants, is an Audiology Supervisor, specializing in Cochlear Implants. She has been with Beth Israel Medical Center since 1996. Nikki was formerly a clinical audiologist at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. She obtained her BA and MA degrees from Hofstra University in Long Island, and is currently completing her PhD in Speech and Hearing Sciences at the City University of New York Graduate Center.
Speech-Language-Auditory Therapy:
Michele Bogaty-Blend, MA, CCC-SLP graduated with a B.A. in Linguistics and Cognitive Science from Brandeis University and received her M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from Northwestern University. After working in early intervention in Massachusetts, Ms. Bogaty Blend came to New York, where she began her career working with children and adults with cochlear implants. She has worked in both educational and clinical settings. She currently provides evaluation and auditory therapy for children and adults who receive cochlear implants at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.
Marianna Davila, MS, CCC-SLP holds a Master's degree in Speech Pathology from Columbia University and has been a speech-language pathologist for 11 years. Ms. Davila specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of communication delays and disorders including auditory processing, hearing impairment and learning disabilities. She is also a native Spanish speaker and has considerable expertise with regard to bilingual language development and treatment issues.
Karen Slotnick, MA, CCC-SLP is Manager, Beth Israel's Speech-Language and Learning Center She holds a Master's Degree in Communication Sciences from Hunter College and has been a Speech-Language Pathologist for 18 years. Ms. Slotnick is fluent in Spanish and assesses and treats a broad spectrum of communication disabilities in both children and adults. She employs the principles and methods of Auditory Verbal Therapy with the hearing impaired and cochlear implant population. She is a leading practitioner of the Fast ForWord Program, a computer-based program for children and adults with auditory and language processing disorders. Ms. Slotnick often presents to professional groups on language processing and reading disorders and treatment.
Educators/Educational Audiology:
Susan Cheffo, MS, Coordinator, joined the staff more than two years ago as Coordinator of Educational Services. She received a BS in Speech and Hearing from Boston University, an MS in Deaf Education from New York University, and certifications in School Administration and Supervision from Queens College and from the Ski*Hi Institute to train teachers in the use of a home-based early intervention model for families of deaf infants. She was teacher of the deaf for children of all ages and eventually became the principal at Nassau BOCES Program for Hearing and Vision Services.
Melanie Rosen, MA, CCA/A is one of the Educational Audiologists on the team at Beth Israel Medical Center. Her interests are in pediatrics and FMs, as well as outreach to schools servicing children with hearing loss and/or processing disorders. She has been with the team since 2004
Lois Heymann, MA, CCC-SLP has over 27 years experience as a speech-language - auditory therapist, working with hard of hearing and deaf children and their families. Lois' goal is to work with cutting-edge technology and to bring her successful therapeutic techniques to children, parents, educators and organizations. Lois holds degrees from Emerson College and City College.
Social Work:
Stacey M. Purro MSW, LCSW graduated from Columbia University School of Social Work in 1992. She has been working at Beth Israel Medical Center since 1998 as a social worker on both the cochlear implant team and in developmental pediatrics. She assists the cochlear implant team by providing support and counseling to children, adults and families.
